Giannis Sina Ugo Antetokounmpo (born December 6, 1994) is a Greek and Nigerian professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). His size, speed, strength, and country of origin have earned him the nickname "Greek Freak". He is widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards of all time as well as one of the greatest players of all time.
Born and raised in Athens to Nigerian parents, Antetokounmpo began playing basketball for the youth teams of Filathlitikos in Athens. In 2011, he began playing for the club's senior team before entering the 2013 NBA draft, where he was selected 15th overall by the Bucks. In 2016–17, he led the Bucks in all five major statistical categories and became the first player in NBA history to finish a regular season in the top 20 in all five statistics: total points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He received the Most Improved Player award in 2017. Antetokounmpo has received eight All-Star selections, including being selected as an All-Star captain in 2019, 2020, 2023 and 2024 as he led the Eastern Conference in voting in these four years.
One of the most decorated players in NBA history, Antetokounmpo won consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player Awards in 2019 and 2020, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James as the only players in NBA history to win two MVPs before turning 26. Along with his MVP award, he was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2020, becoming only the third player, after Michael Jordan (1988) and Hakeem Olajuwon (1994), to win both awards in the same season. In 2021, Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to their first NBA championship since 1971 and was named Finals MVP. The same year, he was honored as one of the league's greatest players of all time by being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. The film Rise, based on the life of Antetokounmpo and his family, was released in 2022.
For his sporting achievements in his discipline, on July 10, 2024, the Greek Olympic Committee designated him as the flag bearer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, along with the Greek race walker Antigoni Drisbioti.

LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant have built Hall of Fame careers on the court and massive empires off it. Their combined career earnings are projected to reach $3.7 billion by season’s end, according to Sportico. Curry and Durant are set to join Bron as the only active NBA players to surpass $1 billion in total earnings, a milestone achieved by just a few athletes globally. This season, LeBron tops the NBA with $132M in total earnings, including $80M from partners like Nike, Richard Mille, Mattel, and Amazon. Curry leads all players in salary at $59M, while KD remains one of the league’s most marketable stars through Nike, Boardroom, and other ventures. *Methodology: Sportico estimated off-court earnings through industry sources, including royalties, media projects, and brand ventures. Figures are pre-tax and exclude unrelated investment income.

Myles Turner on Pacers fans booing him: "It was disheartening, man. It was frustrating. You know you give 10 years of your life. Your blood, your sweat, your tears. You take pay cuts. You survive trade rumors. You try to do everything the right way and sometimes that stuff shakes out. It's cool. I take it on the chin. I think a lot of people will say that I said things, but I think a lot of people want to formulate their own narratives and spin it to whatever they want it to be. It is what it is, man. You take it on the chin and you move on." Giannis on Turner: "To be able to come here in Indiana, for their all-time leading block leader to be booed, for sure it kinda hurt. But we are here to pick him up, tell him how much we love him and respect him and we understand how much he gave for Indiana, and how much he is willing to give to Milwaukee. He's a great, great person. Great character, great competitor. He gave everything he had - blood, sweat, tears, his body - many times on the line for them. So anybody that was booing him today, just think about yourself. Put yourself in that position and you're in a job for 10 years and you decide to make a move for your family, for yourself, because you have different goals, different aspirations for life. And then you go back, and your coworkers and your boss is yelling at you and booing you. You are like, 'What the hell?' I know it's sport, I understand. But, It is bigger than sport. I don't think he's going to say it but he’s gonna go back home and he’s gonna be like, ‘OK, 10 years just went down the drain.’ And that’s not fair for anybody that gave 10 years to the game and 10 years to the Pacers. All the booing and all that, it was just me trying to show camaraderie, encouragement to my teammate, which if you really think about it, four, five months ago, he was blocking my shot, pushing me on the floor. I'm here, I'm not booing him. I don't hate him. It's complete opposite. I respected him when I played against him and now that he's my teammate, it's a lot of love towards him."

BREAKING: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander just secured the bag and cemented his place in NBA history. The Oklahoma City Thunder star has agreed to a 4-year, $285 million super max extension—the highest average annual salary ever. Fresh off a Finals MVP, regular-season MVP, and OKC’s first NBA title, the 26-year-old Canadian is now one of the league’s biggest global stars. He’s just the fourth player ever to win MVP, Finals MVP, a scoring title, and a championship in the same season, joining Kareem, Jordan, and Shaq. Shai scored 3,172 points this year (playoffs included), the ninth-most in NBA history, and dropped 30+ in 64 games—a list that only includes names like Wilt and MJ.
