HISTORY: A 2007-08 Michael Jordan-Kobe Bryant dual Logoman patch card sold for $12.9 million, edging past the $12.6 million paid for the famed 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle. The winning group included collector Matthew Allen, better known in card circles as ‘Shyne150,’ along with Kevin O'Leary and Miami entrepreneur Paul Warshaw. Allen has one of the most valuable collections in the hobby, worth tens of millions on its own. O’Leary admitted he was skeptical about sports cards at first, but said the numbers convinced him. He compared the card to other alternative assets like art, gold, and Bitcoin, while noting it comes with something those don’t: a lot more fun.
